Live Performance

I scrape boxes and make noises in big rooms in front of lots of people.

Lux Aeterna (2024)

From Requiem for the Time of the End by Antony Pitts. With Tonus Peregrinus and Antony. Short on time? Don't miss the last 2min - ecstatic harmonies.

No Time to Die (2024)

With Georgia van Etten and London Concertante in Chichester

Schindler's List (2024)

Cambridge Philharmonic conducted by Tom Primrose (West Road)

Concertante (2024)

I often lead the Scraping for London Concertante's brilliant Candlelight shows. Left: Theme tune from Succession from the Movies show (Exeter Cathedral), Right: Dominick Felix in Nessun Dorma from the Night at the Opera show (?Norwich).

Doves Ascending (2023)

A short improvisation, responding to the Peace Doves at Rochester Cathedral, an installation by sculptor Peter Walker, during a rehearsal break.

Channelling Frederick Delius perhaps? 🙂

Christmas Party (2017)

Composed by THJ (also on piano). This version was for Classic FM - the original recording with Royal Ballet Sinfonia is available to buy from Hyperion or Chandos websites, or all the usual streaming places. Recorded at Holy Trinity, Sloane Square, London

Vivaldi (2016)

One of many 4Seasons performances... I think this was St Martins in the Fields

Bruch (2015)

1st movement of Bruch's violin concerto with Lindsay Ryan and Harmony Sinfonia in South London, UK (Herne Hill festival, October 2015)

Bach (2014)

At St Anne's Church, Old City Jerusalem

Passacaglia (2013)

with David Worswick (left)

Piazzolla 'Primavera' Tango (2012)

Happily, I no longer own this shirt. Final runthrough before performing at the Barbican in London (2012)

Bartok and Violin Player (2012)

with Neil Georgeson in Reading

Passacaglia (2010)

with Drew Balch. Directed by Francis Annan at the Roundhouse, London

Kreisler: La Précieuse (2009)

Viennese sweetmeat + classical haircut. Recital at Bridgewater Hall, Manchester with pianist Daniel Swain.

Improvisation: Old City (2007)

In Easter 2007, after a week spent soaking up the sounds of Old City Jerusalem for the first time, my brain needed some time to process it all. This little improvisation was my instinctive response to calls to prayer, sirens, street traders, religious squawkers, and goodness knows what else...

The Violin Player (2005)

The original recording of 'The Violin Player' by THJ. The most bittersweet piece I know. Recorded at the Riverfront Theatre in Newport (Wales) before a Live Music Now concert, sometime in ?2005.

Menuet 1 and 2 (1988)

Early Box Scraping Tendencies. In the late 1980s I had my own personal assistant who would place the bow on the string for me at the start of performances. Tone quality? Haha. My grandparents evidently had a very 1970s taste in home furnishings. I remember that shagpile carpet as if it was yesterday.
